Following the relocation of the Diagnostics Department as part of the first phase, the space required for the reconfiguration of the critical care facility and the introduction of additional spaces was unlocked.

The relocation of the postanaesthetic care unit (PACU) to the other side of the theatre complex increased the efficiency and safety of the unit for patients and staff, while this move allowed more space for the critical care to expand, awarding the hospital the capacity to continue effectively dealing with the pandemic challenges.

The Theatres Lead Consultant, involved in the scheme, commended the new and improved facilities which in his opinion, have enhanced the clinical pathways, improved throughput and patient experience.
